The human face: entirely unique
Nothing in the world expresses emotion so powerfully and visually as the human face. It is a window on the soul.
Our faces are so unnecessarily complex as to defy natural explanation—leaving us in awe of the ‘overdesign’ God has displayed in the faces of his image-bearers.
Unlike anything in the animal kingdom
We like to ‘see’ smiles in the faces of beloved pets, but the reality is that nothing in the animal kingdom comes remotely close to the expressiveness of the human face.
Human and ape facial muscles
Human and ape facial muscles
Writing in the latest Journal of Creation, Dr Jerry Bergman notes, “It is estimated that humans can make and discern 10,000 different facial expressions, and many of these are universally found in all cultures, indicating that they are a built-in, designed means of communication.”

“In contrast,” he continues, “apes can convey, at most, less than a dozen facial expressions.” Wow!
Human facial expressions are controlled by 55 muscles spread over every part of the face. About half of these are required for various practical tasks including eating, speaking, and closing eyes. The other 20 or so, however, are designed exclusively to produce facial expressions, a number which no animal comes even close to boasting.
Because most human facial expressions are not required for survival, evolutionists have a hard time explaining how natural processes could have produced the many muscles used exclusively for expression.
They would be much better off ‘facing up’ to the fact that our faces reflect the glory and image of our Creator. What a privilege!

Quotation
Over the last few years since I took up a subscription to the [Journal of Creation], there have been many articles … which I have been able to use in helping to refute the Errors of Darwin … often using the data you have provided: and that from Creation Magazine itself, as a resource to refute the claims of local rationalists, who have mounted various assaults on the faith in the local evening paper. I have even used your materials to encourage the faith of others and defend them against the lies of the enemy…”
